Gabriel Josipovici

Gabriel Josipovici was born in Nice in 1940 of Russo-Italian, Romano-Levantine parents. He lived in egypt from 1945 to 1956, when he came to England. After studies at Oxford he joined the faculty of the newly-established University of Sussex as Assistant Lecturer in English in the School of European Studies. He remained at Sussex for his entire academic career, retiring as professor of English in 1997. He is the author of fifteen novels, three volumes of short stories and six critical books, as well as of plays for stage and radio which have been widely performed, particularly in England and Germany. In 2000 Monika Fludernik's book, Echoes and Mirrorings, a critical study of his work, was published by Peter Lang. Gabriel Josipovici is a Fellow of the British Academy and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. He lives in Sussex and London.
