Hamed Abdel-Samed was born in 1972 in Giza, Egypt. He studied English and French at the Ain Shams University in Cairo, as well as Political Science, English Literature and English Linguistics at Augsburg University. In 2003 he worked at the UNESCO International Bureau of Education in Geneva. Since 2004, he has been working as a research fellow at the Chair of Islamic Studies of Erfurt University, since 2005 he has been committed to the research project »The Mobilization of Religion in Europe«. He currently writes his PhD on the religiousness of young moslems in Europe. He has been working as a research fellow at the Georg Eckert Institute on the project dealing with history and civics in the textbooks and curricula of three Arab countries since 2006.
