Thomas Medicus, born in 1953, studied German studies, political sciences and art history in Marburg/Lahn and got his PhD in 1982. He worked as freelance journalist for Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Deutschlandfunk and Baseler Zeitung among others, and as editor at Der Tagesspiegel in Berlin and the Frankfurter Rundschau. In 2001 as well as in 2006 he was fellow of The Society of the Federal Republic at the Hamburg Institute for Social Research.
In 2007 he was Goethe-Munk-Writer at the Munk Centre for International Affairs at the University of Toronto. Since February 2008 Thomas Medicus is a visiting scholar at the Hamburg Institute of Social Research. For more than twenty years, he has been living in Berlin with his family.
